There’s nothing wrong with riding someone else’s wave at Christmas. It’s the season for sharing.
John Lewis’ man on the moon Christmas ad by adam&eve/DDB has been riding a bumper wave of attention since November 5. It has been viewed more than 18,660,000 times and has been featured in much of the world’s press.
Now McCann Manchester has created a man on the moon parody – for Aldi’s Like Like campaign.
Aldi’s man on the moon likes a £109.99 telescope (sold at John Lewis) and Aldi’s one for £69.99…
…but he’s “over the moon” with the woman he sees through his Aldi telescope floating through space towards him in a chair carried by balloons.
The balloons, like everything else in the ad except the music, are almost identical to the ones in the John Lewis ad.
Aldi’s Christmas bonus gift is Jean Jones, who first appeared in Aldi advertising in 2011 for its tea brand. She likes gin.
