Alt.vfx has launched a technology and design agency. T&DA combines its R&D and design divisions to focus on end to end creative solutions.
Alt sees it as a natural progression of the growth and development that the company has been undergoing over the past few years. The Alt group has grown from VFX and post-production to encompass more experimental and creative technologies through the company’s Alt.R&D arm already. By conquering a varied array of projects, the company has gained valuable practical experience in these areas.
Alt’s next step was to create the new standalone brand, bringing in design expertise with the addition of some key hires.
Colin Renshaw, chief executive officer of Alt, explained, “We started Alt.R&D to bring a sharper focus to emerging technologies, and we have watched it grow into something much more. We road-tested the technologies, the creative approach, and worked out where these kinds of experiences and skills could bring outcomes for our clients. When Piotr Stopniak joined us last year, we found that his design experience and expertise gave the department a new edge, something that directly led to the formation of T&DA.”
Piotr Stopniak, who comes from highly respected design studio, Toby & Pete, has been made creative director of design for T&DA. His body of work includes stage design for Grammy-nominated artist, Flume, and large-scale light installations for Lexus and Semi-Permanent. Stopniak hopes to continue his love of lasers in his new role.
Raymond Leung, formerly of The Mill NY, is now T&DA’s creative director of technology, and will work beside Stopniak. He brings vast experience across design and emerging creative technologies to the new company.
Through a partnership with Facebook, T&DA has already created experiences for Cadbury, NRMA and Netflix, and worked with leading agencies such as Ogilvy, The Monkeys and We Are Social.
The company has also created a unique interactive museum installation for the Road to Zero exhibition at the Melbourne Museum, one that uses real-time technologies to offer a valuable learning experience for visitors. T&DA has also worked directly with brand marketers, collaborating with the team at Falken Tyres, for example, to devise, design and produce a standalone AR application that rolled out to over 500 dealerships nationwide.
“We are technologists and designers that are here to assist creatives find the right approach and solutions for their everyday problems. We are already working with agencies, brands, record companies and Government departments in Australia and internationally through our offices in Los Angeles and Tokyo. Being part of the wider Alt group also means that we have a breadth of talent and specialisms available to us, allowing us to tap into the resources of one of the world’s top VFX companies whenever a project requires it,” Renshaw commented.
Executive producer, Tyrone Estephan, will continue to work across both Alt.vfx and T&DA projects and is joined by head of business development, Mark Millar.
