VCCP pulls off a pitch perfect parody.
“The really big and far reaching ad campaign they never really wanted you to see,” is an ad promoting The Defence and Security Equipment International’s London Arms Fair.
It describes what visitors might be able to see and buy there, including killer drones and torture equipment, over a background of audible enthusiastic responses in a style that mimics event ads, with finesse.
The perfect parody was created by VCCP for Amnesty International to protest the four-day government-sanctioned expo at the ExCel Centre in London. According to AI, the fair “has a history of companies advertising illegal torture equipment.
“As well as legal weapons like tanks and guns, we’ve found illegal torture equipment being traded at the Fair in 2005, 2007, 2011 and 2013.
“Of course, the government wants to keep it quiet, but we think the British public should know what’s being advertised right here on our doorstep.”
The VCCP film is being shown in cinemas and online, on posters throughout London and full page ads in press. The press campaign is being bolstered by social media.
The website, Torture on your Doorstep, asks visitors to send an email to “demand the UK government stops the trade in illegal torture equipment once and for all.
19,661 people have. Amnesty International’s goal is 25,000.
On its UK website, AI is asking people to share the ad on Twitter and Facebook, and take and share a photo of the press ad.
