72andSunny has appointed Andy Flemming as creative lead. Flemming, who was previously group creative director at M&C Saatchi, wrote an honest, gutsy open letter on his departure, after his suggestion of death by long sword was rejected by management, he said. The brilliant self-promo apparently caught the attention of 72andSunny. Flemming has worked with 72andSunny for almost a year since.
Flemming has worked with 72andSunny on a variety of pitches and has produced work such as the ilume stop-motion film, Stay, and the Google AFL campaign, which was Mumbrella’s Ad Campaign of the Year.
Flemming stated, “The 72 crew is full of ridiculous talent from world class places such as BBH London, Apple, Facebook, Wieden & Kennedy and Droga5, New York. And the standard of the work reflects this. Everyone just gets on, there’s no politics and the work is the singular focus. And the chance to get to work again with the incomparable Gen Hoey was too good to pass up.”
Flemming has won all the awards that matter and has accumulated a portfolio of famous work such as Can Kids for CommBank, Ricky Gervais and Idris Elba for Optus and MateSong for Tourism Australia.
Luke Martin, executive creative director at 72andSunny, commented, “Based on how our business and industry is evolving, it was super important for us to have a writer that is as skilled and experienced as Andy on our team. His ability to move fast while maintaining the highest level of craft is mind bending. Andy is one of the best, and to have him on the team to help tackle our clients’ biggest problems is very exciting.”
Ross Berthinussen, president at 72andSunny, added, “We’re absolutely stoked to welcome Andy to the team. Andy is a creative force, and most importantly a kind-hearted human. Over the years he has been instrumental to many successful campaigns and I’m excited to see Andy apply his superpowers to our clients’ briefs.”
Flemming started his advertising career in 1988 in London and has worked for Chiat/Day Sydney, BSB Hong Kong, Bates CHI Singapore, George Patterson Melbourne, M&C Saatchi Sydney and now 72andSunny.
