Carstairs has already won US$100,000 plus a guaranteed creative gig with the Doritos brand team. Up for grabs now is US$1 million, his ad aired during the Super Bowl 50 broadcast on February 7 on the CBS network in the US and the opportunity to collaborate to collaborate with director, Zack Snyder while working with Warner Bros. Pictures and DC Entertainment.
This year’s competition received nearly 4,500 submissions from 28 countries around the world. The three finalists were chosen from 50 semi-finalists by the competition jury that included executives from the Doritos brand team and top advertising and marketing professionals.
Crash the Super Bowl, which began in the US, opened up to a global audience three years ago and there has been an Australian in the finals each year since. Tom Noakes’ Finger Cleaner was the first international finalist in the competition’s history. It also achieved more than 4 million views on YouTube. Armand De Saint-Salvy’s Doritos Manchild made it into the top 10 last year.
The winner will be chosen by fan votes. Anyone can vote until January 31 here. The three filmmakers will find out which one of them won at the same time as the rest of the world – when the winning ad goes to air during the Super Bowl.
The last ever Doritos winner will have the chance to leave a creative mark on a future Warner Bros. and DC Entertainment project, collaborating with Snyder, the director of the upcoming release Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, Man of Steel, 300 and Dawn of the Dead.
“I know firsthand that in the entertainment business, you get a few shots to take a risk and put your talent up against everybody else to see if you have what it takes to make it big. The Super Bowl is one of the biggest stages in the world and having your talent showcased in front of that audience can open a new world of opportunities. I can hardly wait to see which ad prevails,” Snyder commented.
