Macy’s travelling along the same rock as Australia’s major department stores. And it must be hoping that Christmas, and its third new agency in three years – BBDO New York – will help to turn this year’s results around.
BBDO New York has gone all-out for emotional pull, with a classic Christmas heart-warmer, the story of a young boy and his act of generosity towards a friend, a girl who lives in a lighthouse and has recently lost her mother. He uses the soccer lamp he has received as a Chrissy present to send an invitation in Morse code for the girl and her dad to come to dinner.
The film is running on digital channels in its full two-minute version, supported by three 30-second product spots and a series of 15 and 30 second promo ads.
