How many characters can you fit in an ad? That’s an interesting question because the more you emphasise the vastness of Virgin Media’s entertainment world.
So BBH London chased 300 characters – from Virgin Media movies, gaming, TV and real-life sports – down a 200 foot tunnel in Budapest. The tunnel is a metaphor for Virgin’s fibre broadband network, Virgin Fibre. The characters represent the vast library of content its customers can access through its.
So there’s Iron Lord Hunter from Activision’s Destiny, Donatello from Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, muppets, superheroes, astronauts, players from Southampton Football Club.… and Usain Bolt, Virgin Media’s brand ambassador.
Adding to the sense of fast-paced action is the music, Misirlou, by Dick Dale and the Del Tones, the guys who created the Pulp Fiction soundtrack.
The campaign coincides with the launch of VIVID 300 – Virgin’s top speed broadband and the refresh of its bundles. “Our entry speed is VIVID 100, meaning we start where our competition stops,” noted Kerris Bright, chief marketing officer at Virgin Media.
The film launched on March 24 in the UK during primetime shows, Coronation Street and Gogglebox and the campaign will run for 14 weeks across TV, online, print and out of home.
Bright commented, “Red Hot is our north star for judging creativity and our new campaign delivers this in spades. If entertainment could choose its fibre – it would choose Virgin fibre.
“The power of our proposition is that we bring connectivity and entertainment together in an irresistible way. The best entertainment needs awesome connectivity, so whether you’re streaming, downloading or gaming online we’ve got the connectivity that’s up to the job.”
