Ben Coulson has been chief creative officer of Y&R ANZ since 2011, a position that was created for him. He has been at Y&R since 2006, when he joined as executive creative director of GPY&R Melbourne. Y&R ANZ has racked up 67 Cannes Lions and 21 D&AD Pencils under his leadership. It was this year’s most awarded ANZ network at D&AD, Cannes, Andy, One Show and New York festivals, and has been the most awarded ANZ network at Cannes and Spikes three times. It has been named Agency of the Year by Campaign Brief, AdNews, B&T, Award and the Effies.
Couson will be replaced by Josh Moore, currently chief executive officer and chief creative officer of Y&R New Zealand and one of the creatives behind McWhopper for Burger King, which “cleaned up” at this year’s major awards.
The Stable spoke to Coulson shortly after he returned from Cannes, where Y&R Group ANZ picked up 27 Lions, including two Grands Prix and a Titanium lion from Y&R Auckland, and was Cannes Lions most awarded network in ANZ.
