There is a story behind the wine. It’s rather nice and probably triggers some people to try the wine. But when you have a label with this much finesse, aesthetic beauty and elegance of style you really just believe the wine has to have all that too. Job done.
The agency behind the design is Co Partnership in Sydney. The designers are its c0-founders, Zoe Green & Max Harkness. And they met when they worked together in London at design agency, Lewis Moberly. They chose to screen print the design directly onto the bottle to give it the textural qualities they wanted, to underscore the brand story.
The illustration/typography is by New Yorker, Jon Contino. He is known for his hand-lettering and for weaving old and new design elements. The list of brands whose identities he has shaped or reshaped is an epic document. Contino is also co-founder creative director of menswear brand, CXXV1 Clothing Company.
And this is the story of Hidden Sea wine.
“Millions of years ago, the Limestone Coast of South Australia was covered by the Great Southern Ocean. Over a series of ice ages the ocean receded leaving the ground layered with ancient fossilised limestone, making the region a world heritage site.
Within these rich alluvial soils, sea fossils including whale fossils have been found. Today this soil provides a natural and unique filtration system for the region’s world famous wine industry.”
