“From the average person to an Oscar winning actor, everyone goes a little crazy about getting their hands on a new mobile phone.”
Optus managing director of marketing and product, Ben White, knows what new tech feels like. And Optus also worked out that using that feeling is a very good way to sell its mobile products.
Especially when you adorn your campaign with the ebullience of Cuba Gooding Jnr – the Oscar-winning Gooding Jr that people loved in Jerry McGuire, Pearl Harbour and American Crime Story: The People v. O. J. Simpson.
Optus has now made him the frontsman in two films for Optus, in the campaign called Cuba Gooding Jnr’s guide to new phone excitement, and making Optus the first Australian brand Gooding Jnr has worked with.
White commented, “Optus is offering a lot of amazing mobile products and to celebrate the excitement our customers feel when they buy a new mobile, we thought it was fitting to ask one of the world’s most accomplished actors to act out some reactions our employees see.”
In the series, Cuba goes through a range of emotions from running into the store and begging for the latest device to moonwalking his way to suavely secure the latest phone.
“I really enjoyed working with Optus to shoot this series. Optus gave me the creative freedom to really own the characters and create some fun content,” Gooding Jnr stated.
