D&AD has announced the shortlists for the Next Photographer Award and Next Director Award.
The final judging session at the 2016 D&AD Festival, April 20-22, will choose the Next Photographer from a shortlist of 18 and the Next Director from a shortlist of 21. The two winners will be announced on at the D&AD Awards Ceremony in London on May 19.
The D&AD Next Photographer Award is held in partnership with Getty Images and judged by those on the top echelon in the industry – including photographers, Tim Flach and James Day; Michael Trow from British Vogue; Kate Edwards from The Guardian; and Andy Saunders of Getty Images.
This year’s Next Photographer shortlist is:

Shortlisted creatives receive:
- International exposure for their work through D&AD and Getty Images
- Mentorship from a wide portfolio of acclaimed photographers, agents and advertising agencies
- The chance to win the grand prize of a D&AD Next Awards Pencil, a place in the D&AD Annual and a $5,000 prize fund from Getty Images to realise a dream photography project
- An exhibition in London during the D&AD Festival 2016
- Tickets to attend the D&AD Awards Ceremony in May 2016, where the winner will be announced in front of over 1,600 of the industry’s most prominent creatives.
- The winner will get flights to come to London for the event
The Next Director Award is open to aspiring filmmakers with less than two years commercial filmmaking experience. Entrants could submit up to three films of any type – including short films, commercials, branded content, documentaries and music videos.
It is judged by highest calibre professionals including Laura Gregory from Great Guns; directors Kim Gehrig, Dougal Wilson and Antoine Bardou-Jacquet from Partizan Paris; and David Knight of Promonews and BUG.
