Burger King has decided that 2020 has already wreaked enough misery on the world, especially in the US right now. The state of Florida reported its largest number of deaths in a single day from the coronavirus, 173, on Thursday July 23. Florida is behind only California and New York in total cases. This week, the total number of Covid cases in the US topped 4 million.
It’s ending the year already. The chain is bringing Christmas early in Florida, decorating its store in Miami Lakes, Florida, with all the trappings of Christmas and filling its app and social channels with Yuletide themes.

The happiness-in-gloom idea comes from creative agency, David, in São Paulo and Miami. Supporting the stunt is a two-for-$5 unwrapping deal that lets diners mix and match features for their Whoppers, Big Fish, Original Chicken Sandwiches and Chicken Fries.
“2020 has been a tough year thus far and it’s a popular sentiment that people are tired and overwhelmed—they just want it to be over,” stated Renato Rossi, marketing lead, Burger King North America. “In this campaign, we are able to use a light-hearted approach that brings much-needed happiness and enjoyment.”
