Last week David New York brought together two world-famous entities, Norwegian forward, Erling Haaland, and Supercell game, Clash of Clans. Erling Haaland became the Barbarian King from Clash of Clans in witty billboards and a mlovie-style trailer across six European cities (London, Liverpool, Manchester, Madrid, Milan, Munich).
The global campaign is one of the most significant projects ever undertaken by DAVID in 2024. It has now reached the main phase. Football legends, Ronaldo, Ronaldinho and Sergio Agüero, have called out the star striker online, voicing their frustrations over his major new deal with Supercell video game, Clash of Clans. The legendary Brazilians and Argentine have claimed the deal should have been theirs – as their characters would have been a better fit.
Ronaldo, a three-time FIFA player of the year and twice winner of the Ballon d’Or, stated, “I can’t believe they put Erling Haaland in Clash of Clans. I am Ronaldo the First. Nobody tears down defences like Ronaldo the First.”
Ronaldinho, a fellow World Cup and Ballon d’Or winner, added, “I know they already have a wizard in Clash of Clans, but I create even better magic with a football at my feet.”
Sergio Agüero, a Premier League and Argentina national team legend, commented, “Everything I do, he does it too, whether it’s breaking records or playing video games. And now he’s in a game? Give me a break.”
Responding to the comments, Erling Haaland, said, “These guys are all legends and I’d have them in my clan any day.”
“Having football legends like Ronaldo, Ronaldinho or Aguero, pitching to Clash of Clans why they should be in the game instead of Haaland, was an amazing way to make this campaign bigger, connecting with a broader football audience, inviting them to play Clash of Clans,” noted Andre Toledo, chief creative officer at DAVID New York.
