David Sao Paulo’s Halloween prank for Burger King could have been staged in Australia. Australians are also fearful of receiving utility bills. Last year, electricity bills jumped six times the rate of the average pay rise in Australia and household electricity bills rose by 20% in some states the year before.
In Brazil, people’s horror of utility bills has been a regular trending topic in social media. So this Halloween, David Sao Paulo played into that emotion by mailing 10,000 customers a coupon for a half-price Whopper disguised as a utility bill.
Brazilians can also view the Whopper Bill online and can send it to their friends as a prank. When the WR code is accessed with a smartphone camera, people can redeem the bill for a half-price discount voucher for a Whopper combo, on October 31.
The campaign also features a 30-second video that includes Burger King’s newest humorous snipe at McDonald’s clown.
“They’ll never forget ghosts, vampires or zombies,” stated Rafael Donato, creative vice president at David.
“What really scares the hell out of Brazilians is a bill. So naturally, we couldn’t resist. This is one bill they’ll never forget.”
