Every now and then, a Christmas campaign flouts the “make it heartfelt” rule. Because Christmas (oh, let’s be honest…any time the whole family gets together) doesn’t always produce “tidings of comfort and joy”.
Some Christmas ads view the whole thing from a satirical viewpoint. Gosh, those ads are familiar. And, gee, those ads are fun.
Harvey Nichols wears the crown for presenting Christmas like this, thanks to the collective wit of adam&eve/DDB.
But another DDB, DDB New York, has had a really good go at entertaining those whom Christmas doesn’t make doe-eyed – for the US cotton industry body, Cotton Incorporated.
Each little vignette in the 50 second montage, The Comfortable Collection for Uncomfortable Holiday Moments, suggests what to wear to get through the inevitable awkward moments of Christmas. When the guests arrive early, a cotton bathrobe saves your dignity. Gran might have mistaken your foot for her boyfriend’s but you’re still rocking the coolest socks. And so on.
