Fontyou? Typography has opened the doors of its club house. Fontyou is an online space open to all creatives, in which they can learn the basics about typography, share their ideas, buy fonts, create fonts and sell them.
It was begun a year ago by Gregori Vincens, Nicolas Boudriot, Valentine Proust and Gia Tran to make typographical design more easily accessible. It’s a social typography network in which anyone can take part in the creative process of creating a font from A to Z. Or just go there to buy one.
There are now 14 people in the Fontyou team (type designers, developers, web designers, graphic designers, marketing and sales, community management and communication). “All of them share a passion for design, innovation, linguistics and new technologies.”
The Fontyou font collection underlines worldwide trends as well as the creativity of the online community. It is constantly enhanced and expanded.
The Fontyou collection is made up of more than 45 typefaces (200+ fonts) that were developed by experienced type designers, who guarantee the drawing and the balance of the shapes, the letter spacing, the kerning, hinting and encoding. About 20 new fonts are put up for sale each month and about 100 are under development right now. More than 4,000 licences have been sold in the last eight months.
When a typographic project is selected and developed into a full set of typefaces, the co-creators receive royalties on the sales that can go from 5 to 55% depending on their level of involvement.
All the developed fonts are sold both on Fontyou’s e-commerce website and via the main international distribution channels (Myfonts, Fontshop etc). The Fontyou team takes care of their marketing and communication.
