Low battery anxiety is a thing, a thing to which everyone can relate these days. Forsman & Bodenfors has used this relatability in its campaign for Volvo’s hybrid cars – or electric cars with a backup plan. The campaign is running in both digital and traditional media channels. The campaign is Volvo’s message to the world that with plug-in hybrids, you can make sure most of your drive is responsibly electric, but you’re covered for longer journeys too.
The campaign film, set to the hurried pace of Sinnerman by Nina Simone, is a humorous reminder of the stressful chase for battery life from morning to night. With the dad as the main character, played by renowned Danish actor, Thomas Hwan, we see his reactions to everything from his Zoom-meeting getting suddenly disconnected to his daughter mischievously stealing his charger and ultimately his wife stealing the charger for their other car.
“Since the stress of low battery anxiety is something almost everyone can relate to, we wanted to highlight this in a hectic but also fun and entertaining way,” explained Karl Risenfors, art director at Forsman & Bodenfors.
The film, directed by Laerke Herthoni and shot by Monica Lenczewska, is part of a global campaign in which Volvo says that on the road towards an all-electric future, it’s not just about the number of electric cars, but the number of electric journeys we enable.

“Before the charging infrastructure is fully developed, a way to cut emissions here and now is to also look at converting more car drivers to long-range plug-in hybrids and enable more journeys to be made on electric,” noted Andreas Malm, chief creative officer at Volvo Cars.
