Two things have come to the fore when choosing a super fund – the personal touch and environmental responsibility. These two assets are currently being presented in various ways in super advertising across Australia, but none with as much impact as this idea for Future Super.
The company has just launched a giant billboard in Marrickville in Sydney, which features the real names of the members who have joined Future Super, and therefore taken a stance that they are not funding the climate crisis. Future Super is Australia’s fossil-fuel-free super fund.
The billboard is the next iteration of its campaign, We’re Out, which began last year, when the brand took out an ad in The Age with Future Super members signatures who have moved their money out of super funds who fund the fossil fuel industry.

The idea came from the knowledge that 7.7% of Australia’s collective superannuation could bring the country fully into renewable energy.
Future Super attracted a lot of attention early in 2020, following New South Wales’ the climate catastrophe bushfires. Its member base doubled in 2020 as more people learned about the impact their super has on the world and rejected the idea that you have to destroy the planet to build your retirement savings. More attractive than choosing clean energy or profit was the idea that they can have both.
Future Super then asked its members to be part of We’re Out by having their name published on a billboard in Sydney’s inner west train line. The billboard is at Marrickville station.
Grace Palos, chief marketing officer, at Future Super, commented, “We’re Out is a movement that highlights the people who are using their super to create the world we all want to live in – right now.
“Super is owned by everyday people and thousands of people are using their super to support companies building an equal and sustainable world. This campaign is about letting those people speak for themselves and signal to others how easy it is to make this shift.”
