It has been a short spell for Javier Campopiano as global chief creative officer, global clients for Omnicom Advertising Group (OAG). He is stepping down from his role after six months, leaving at the end of May.
Before the Omnicom-IPG merger, Campopiano was global chief creative officer for McCann Worldgroup and McCann from February 2023, and before that worldwide chief creative officer for Grey Group.
While SVP Chief Creative Officer Saatchi & Saatchi US & Latin America (2014-2022), Campopiano created It’s a Tide Ad, the faux ads that hijacked the 2018 Super Bowl and went on to win a D&AD Black Pencil at D&AD, a Titanium Lion and the 2019 Grand Effie. While at McCann, the agency won Grand Prix and Titanium awards at Cannes Lions for Xbox and L’Óreal.
Campopiano announced his departure on LinkedIn:
Amigas and amigos: yes, it’s true.
I am leaving Omnicom at the end of the month.
I am deeply grateful to Troy Ruhanen for the huge opportunity to be at the creative helm of this new enterprise, and to all the new colleagues I’ve met in this role since I started back in December. It has been an honor and a true pleasure.
That is why it is not an easy decision, but I know it is the right one.
I am forever changed as a creative and as a leader by my three years at McCann Worldgroup and McCann.
Daryl Lee pitched this job to me as a dream one, and it certainly was, on many, many levels. I met some of the most talented, ambitious and kind people you could dream of working with, starting with Daryl and the executive leadership team, and that is more than you can ask for in this industry today.
Together, we produced an outstanding body of work for our clients, won a fair amount of global new business pitches, and earned all the awards that should follow great, real work.
People that have worked with me know very well that I am rarely fully satisfied, but I am quite happy -and proud- with what we’ve all achieved. McCann is in great hands and I will always be cheering for a brand that stands for Truth Well Told.
So, onto the future.
As I said in my quote, I want to focus my energy more intentionally on specific projects and being even closer to the ideas. And I want to enjoy it even more, which for me means doing more work and getting my hands dirtier.
I won’t say more now. Today is about saying goodbye, a short but heartfelt “Ciao”.
I will share some news soon.
In the meantime, as always, the most important feeling to express is gratitude.
From the bottom of my Argentinian heart, thank you to all the colleagues, teams, clients and friends who have been part of this amazing time in my career.
Cheers!
