Goodby Silverstein & Partners has created an Oculus Rift VR experience for visitors to Disney and Dalí: Architects of the Imagination at the Salvador Dali Museum in Florida USA, that allows people to move around inside the landscape in one of his early paintings, Archeological Reminiscence of Millet’s ‘Angelus’.
The experience also allows them to listen to an interpretation of Dali’s artist’s thoughts and inspect some of his depictions of elephants, birds and ants. And it incorporates some of the recurring motifs from his other paintings in the museum’s permanent collection, including Weaning of Furniture Nutrition (1934), Lobster Telephone (1936) and First Cylindric Chromo-Hologram Portrait of Alice Cooper’s Brain (1973).
The project was pitched to the museum by creative directors, Sam Luchini and Roger Baran, who are both Dali fans. “Dali and Disney partnered together when making the short animated film, Destino, and individually were always looking to new ways to explore the intersection of innovation and art,” Luchino noted.
The exhibition is running from January 23 to June in Florida. Dreams of Dali has also been created as an online experience for those with VR viewers.
The campaign for the experience includes posters and a trailer.
