Goodby Silverstein & Partners’ first work for NFL Network is humorous (very humorous) – and while Cummins & Partners is also currently running a humorous campaign for the Australian Football League, (in fact, as it stars Chris Hemsworth it probably fits more neatly into the celebrity campaign category), humour stands out in football advertising.
The first ad, Miracle of Life, in the campaign called When it’s on. It’s on, stands out for another reason. See if you can guess what that is:
Being different wasn’t important just to make the ad stand out in a cluttered category (there’s an ad “every other minute’ demanding people watch this or that), the ad had to achieve some tricky feats, according to GS&P, who explained, “NFL Network’s Thursday Night Football needed to differentiate the franchise, capture a broader audience, go younger, and show how no matter when life’s moments happen, the party is on and Game is on.”
The idea that when a game is on nothing gets in the way of football is also played out in this freaky conference call between boss and employees:
