Australian director, Gracie Otto, is directing the second season of Stan’s original series, Bump. The ten part 30-minute series, created by Kelsey Munro and Claudia Karvan, was first released on New Year’s Day 2021, and follows school girl, Oly, who gives birth to a baby she was not expecting while at school.
Otto, who is represented in Australia by Playtime and by Dog Eat Dog in the UK, is the director whose stylish energy, modern aesthetic, and willingness to push the common perception of beauty, created a sultry, sexy Bonds at the beginning of the female empowerment movement and a playful Seafolly to shore up its position as Australia’s largest swimwear brand.
Otto’s background as an editor, actress and model means she brings something a little different to the table. She also has previous series-directing experience, working on Australian Academy of Cinema and Television Arts 2020 nominee, The Other Guy, created by and centered around comedian and radio host, Matt Okine, who finds himself single for the first time in ten years after discovering his long-term girlfriend has been having an affair with his best friend – and there’s a baby on the way. Otto is as skilled as a director of documentary, narrative and performance as she is working on highly photographic commercials.
Season 2 of Bump is being released ahead of Otto’s next project, musical dramedy, Seriously Red, starring Krew Boylan, Daniel Webber, Rose Byrne, Celeste Barber, Bobby Cannavale and Jack Thompson, which started shooting in November. The film will be distributed by Arclight in the USA and Roadshow in Australia. It is the first feature film under Otto’s company, Dollhouse Pictures, formed with Rose Byrne and Shannon Murphy.
Her next feature documentary, Under The Volcano is due out this year.
