Because if you watch what sufferers of Parkinson’s Disease go through through to have their symptoms treated, you might help to find a cure.
Andy is the narrator of the campaign’s core film, The Lucky Ones, while he is undergoing Deep Brain Stimulation. This is currently the ‘best’ treatment option available to those with Parkinson’s Disease and it is only viable for some sufferers.
Simon Langley, executive creative director, J Walter Thompson Sydney, commented, “Parkinson’s is not a well-known disease so we had to create a campaign which would cut through and make people sit up and take action. Amazingly the patient has to be awake throughout the entire operation which we filmed live, and our patient delivers the powerful V/O to camera right there on the operating table – mid operation.
“It’s compelling viewing which will no doubt hit a raw nerve with viewers and we hope motivate them to take action and donate money to the cause.”
The J.Walter Thompson awareness campaign launched on A Current Affair on World Parkinson’s Day, April 11, during its interview with the core film’s talent, Andy, and his family.
A second film features the film’s director, David Jagoda, who is also a Parkinson’s sufferer, who had the treatment six years ago. He explains why research must continue.
The Lucky Ones will be seeded on Facebook & Unruly and is supported by Jagoda’s film on an additional website, where donations may be made.
