JohnXHannes NY, the two-year-old creative collective begun by two Australian expats, John McKelvey and Hannes Ciatti, has capped a year of awards glory by winning the Ad Age Small Agency of the Year Award for 1-10 employees.
Funworks San Francisco was runner-up.
At this year’s Cannes, JohnXHannes collected a Grand Prix, a Gold Lion in Entertainment, two Silver Lions and another 8 shortlists, including the Titanium Lion, for Corazon – Give Your Heart.

The agency’s Your Next Move for Squarespace with John Malkovich and Above The Noise for Beats By Dre won at D&AD, One Show and Cannes. Your Next Move, which won Silver in Integrated Campaign at the Small Agency Awards, also won an Emmy last year.

It does that its own way – being part start-up, part consultancy and part agency, with a number of high-end production partnerships on which to draw.
Other Ad Age Small Agency of the year winners:
- Butler, Shine Stern & Partners Sausalito won the overall Ad Age Small Agency of the Year Award, with Mistress Santa Monica runner-up.
- Oberland New York won the Ad Age Small Agency of the Year Award for 11-75 employees with, Imprint Project New York runner-up.
- Phenomenon Los Angeles won the Ad Age Small Agency of the Year Award for 76 – 150 employees, with Brownstein Group Philadelphia runner-up.
- Bensimon Byrne Toronto Canada won the International Ad Age Small Agency of the Year Award, with No Fixed Address Toronto runner-up.
