Burger King abolished its menu in Austria. For one day, only the Whooper was available. The campaign from Jung von Matt DONAU aimed to shock people into thinking about the importance of democratic voting.
2024 has been a year of important elections all over the world, with even more to come. As well as the forthcoming US vote, Austria is holding elections this month, with the Far Right Freedom party currently leading in the polls.
Burger King and Jung von Matt used hidden cameras to capture the wide range of reactions from customers at a restaurant and drive-thru. There were some heated discussions. People didn’t like having their choice taken away.
The campaign video, designed to highlight the importance of voting rights in the upcoming Austrian national elections on September 29 is being spread on social media, pushing the message of democracy and voter participation with the hashtag #YourVoteMatters.

“Burger King is at the heart of society. Our doors are open to everyone who wants to choose from a wide selection. On the occasion of the elections, we feel it is important to contribute and encourage eligible Austrians to use their vote on September 29, 2024,” stated Jan-Christoph Küster, managing director of Burger King Austria.
