The obstacle for charity campaigns is the cooling off period between seeing ad and donating. German agency, Kolle Rebbe, found away around it.
“Kolle Rebbe, quite simply, believes in common sense. We conduct business with entrepreneurial intelligence…”
Common sense is at the core of the effectiveness of its campaign for relief organisation, Misereor. In the five decades across which Misereor has been operating it has noted that even the smallest donation can make a big difference. Kolle Rebbe noted that enabling instant acts of altruism makes a huge difference.
Last year, more than 40% of charitable payments un Europe were made via credit card. These three ingredients were turned into a unique donation campaign created by the agency. The Social Swipe is a poster that accepts donations from credit cards.
Donors simply swipe their card down the centre of the poster to make a simple, once off donation of 2 Euros.
When a card is swiped, a secure process quickly authenticates the card before playing an onscreen animation that demonstrates symbolically the effect that their donation has had. For example, when the digital poster displays the bound hands of an imprisoned child, the card cuts through the bonds around the child’s wrists and sets the child free. In another sequence, the digital display would show a loaf of bread and as the donor swipes their credit card, the card cuts off a slice of bread to feed the hungry.
The campaign is also able to create a longer lasting effect. When donors receive their credit card statement they are provided with the option of making their donation a regular, ongoing payment. The interactive posters are currently installed at international airports.
Sascha Hanke, executive creative director at Kolle Rebbe, said,
“It was a challenge. All processes connected with the donation had to be synchronized. When the card is swiped a secure process quickly authenticates it and in a split second activates a film sequence on screen.”
The interactive donation poster was created with help from mobile payment provider, Stripe.com.
