Men don’t like to hear about prostate cancer but they listen to music. Due to the high annual death rates caused by prostate cancer in Chile, the Chilesincáncer Foundation and Rockaxis magazine are in the midst of a crusade to raise awareness for men over 40 to get their first preventive exam through music, using great albums that turn 40 this 2024.
The awareness campaign uses 40-year-old songs such as Queen’s The Works, Bruce Springsteen’s Born in the USA, Madonna’s Like a Virgin and Sade’s Diamond Life, from LOCA Santiago to remind men over 40 to get their prostate checked and includes a preventative playlist on Spotify. The aim of the campaign is to promote the importance of prevention and encourage men to have their first prostate checkup from the age of 40-45.
“Music is a transversal element in our society. Just look at how certain bands continue to fill stadiums and sell tickets in minutes, or how the sale of vinyl records and CDs, formats from the past, have become popular again these days. Our idea is to give sound to a topic that men rarely talk about, and there’s no better way to do it than through albums and songs that are now part of pop culture, with a direct, suggestive, and, why not, fun visual code,” stated Diego Ramírez, creative of LOCA Santiago.

Some of Chile’s most popular music artists – Cote Foncea from Lucybell, Toño Corvalán from Chancho en Piedra, composer Cler Canifrú, virtuoso guitarist Gabriel Hidalgo, Andrés Olivos from Difuntos Correa, musician and YouTuber Nico Borie, and other prominent figures such as the historic face of MTV Latin America’s Headbangers, Alfredo Lewin, have joined the initiative, “If it’s time for an exam, prevention sounds off.”
“Chilesincáncer Foundation joins the power of music to convey a vital message: the importance of early diagnosis of prostate cancer. In a country where music unites us, it can also save lives. It’s time for Chilean men to take care of their health and take care of themselves,” commented Cecilia Gracia, executive director of the Foundation.
“I think it’s very important to raise awareness about prostate cancer prevention, and at Rockaxis, we are happy to be part of this campaign. I advise getting checked from the age of 40 to ensure another 40 years of rock,” commented Cote Hurtado, CEO of Rockaxis.

According to Globocan 2022, more than 9,500 new cases of prostate cancer are recorded annually in Chile, with more than 2,700 deaths each year due to this disease. The aim of the campaign is to promote the importance of prevention and encourage men to have their first prostate checkup from the age of 40-45.
