Lorcan Finnegan has a rare talent for taking recognisable human truths and pushing them somewhere unexpected. His work lives in that sweet spot between sharp concept and real emotion. Strange, funny, uncomfortable, moving and often all at once. He knows how to build a world with a clear point of view, then fill it with performances that feel deeply human, whether it be comedy or drama.

Finnegan has just completed a series of four fun television commercials with The Bank Collective by WPP led by Folk VML, each shot in its own unexpected way for Bank of Ireland’s Right With You platform.
Fawcett commented, “I love that Lorcan’s humour always comes from a real place. It is clever and unexpected, but never try-hard. He understands what makes people tick, and that gives the work real connection. Visually, he brings the eye of a designer and photographer, so everything feels considered without ever feeling overcooked. In a world full of digital landfill, he makes ads people actually remember.”
Before filmmaking, Lorcan worked in London as a motion designer and comedy sketch editor with Charlie Brooker. He then moved into short-animated films and award-winning commercials, earning international recognition in particular for his comedic flair. His debut feature, Without Name, premiered at TIFF in 2016, followed by Vivarium in 2019, that premiered at Cannes Critics’ Week and won the Ganne Foundation Award; the psychological thriller, Nocebo in 2022; and The Surfer, which he shot in Australia, starring Oscar winner, Nicolas Cage, that premiered in Official Selection at Cannes 2024 and received a six-minute standing ovation.
Finnegan’s remarkable ability to elicit performances that engage people and tell stories they remember attracted Anna Fawcett as much as the comedic charm, that underpins his commercials for brands such as NIB, Lucozade, Tesco Mobile, National Lottery and An Post Insurance. His uncommon eye adds to a roster curated by Fawcett’s ability to recognise the appeal in a wide range of directing talent.
