What on earth was Jamiroquai reaching for? Beefeater reveals that secret, thirty years after Virtual Insanity swept across the world. Beefeater 0.0 and Lucky Generals have partnered with Jamiroquai to reimagine the video that captivated music fans by taking Jay Kay beyond the famous moving room and into a world of new experiences. It’s an even wilder, must watch again, virtual insanity trip than the original.
For 30 years, fans have recreated and remixed the moment Jamiroquai frontman Jay Kay glided effortlessly towards the camera with his hand reaching for something. Now, on the video’s 30th anniversary, Beefeater reveals that he was reaching for Beefeater 0.0%. As the catalyst for the action, the drink opens doors, literally, to more rooms, more adventures and, naturally, more hats. Proof that, with moderation, Jay Kay can get more out of life.
The campaign film was directed by Julien & Quentin and produced by Magna Studios with a strong commitment to analogue craft It sets out to honour the spirit of the original film while pushing it somewhere new (quite literally, as this time it was the floor that moved, not the walls). The production avoided CG and AI, instead building nine physical rooms and relying on in-camera choreography, set design and performance – all choreographed by Jay Kay himself – to create and deliver a sense of movement and surprise that made the original so mind-blowing.

The campaign, built for social and driven by music, movement and visual cues, is designed to be remixed, reinterpreted and shared – reflecting a fast-paced, expressive and collective city culture, where moments are shaped through music, nightlife and connection.
The first-of-its-kind partnership brings to life the shift in moderation – not slowing down, but getting more out of city life. In social settings, zebra striping is the practice of alternating between alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks to moderate consumption while still enjoying yourself. Beefeater 0.0% fits naturally into this, giving people more flexibility to enjoy the same drinking experience.

Wearing more hats than ever before, Jay Kay is an unexpected but fitting ambassador for moderation. Once synonymous with excess, today he represents a different kind of cool, proving that choosing 0.0 isn’t about giving something up, it’s about getting more from the night, the music and the moments that matter.
The campaign has launched across key global markets such as Spain and Italy, supported by a major content and influencer drive, tease assets, activity across Reddit and Discord, special bottles, a video game element and behind-the-scenes content to follow.
Shelley Smoler, CCO and Damien Le Castrec, CSO at Lucky Generals, stated, “We thought the 30th anniversary of Virtual Insanity was the perfect moment to finally set Jay Kay free from that little white room. Free to wear more hats than ever before. Because ironically, when you drink Beefeater 0.0, you get more.”

Francesco Ottaviano, VP marketing gins & aperitifs at Beefeater parent, Pernod Ricard, added,“Beefeater 0.0% is all about encouraging fans to get more from every moment and enjoy a great-tasting alcohol-free choice for any occasion. Our partnership with Jamiroquai and the reimagining of such an iconic 90s music video celebrates a fresh take on urban life, where moderation means you don’t miss out, you get more.
Julien & Quentin commented, “When we first took on this project, we immediately felt the profound weight and legacy of Jonathan Glazer’s iconic original music video. It’s a masterpiece that fascinated an entire generation, including us, driven by Jay Kay’s undeniable flow and that legendary track. While stepping onto such sacred pop-culture ground was initially daunting, the opportunity to pay homage to this monument of music history, and offer a surprising modern sequel to it, was incredibly compelling.
