In Netflix’ advent calendar of (largely implausible but highly addictive) Christmas romcoms and love stories, is a Mills & Boon-style classic called Hot Frosty about a woman who falls in love with a snowman (yes, he is a living, walking snowman). Ryan Reynolds has stolen the absurdity of the movie and added his own brand of wonderful humour to turn it into a 45-second commercial for Aviation Gin.
The result is a sharp spot that begins with Reynolds’ sincere rumination about loneliness during the holiday season over a scene of a woman meeting the (at this point inanimate, but oh so, ripped) snowman (who bears an uncanny resemblance to Reynolds himself) …
…until the film takes a gobsmack turn when the woman yanks off the snowman’s arm to steal the Aviation Gin he has been holding. Was the pun about “ripped” intended or did it just trigger the idea in a Maximum Effort creative’s brain?
