Ogilvy North America has given skincare advertising a welcome shift into territory it probably never thought would embrace it. And my, how it does.
Comedian, Ilana Glazer, gives a funny, relatable and hugely appealing stand-up – that happens to have Garnier skincare woven into it. Her spiel about the rigours of being the mum of a three-year-old also challenges skincare trends and points out the effortless makeup removal of Garnier Micellar Water.
Lazer breaks down the exhausting process of getting ready – spending hours prepping, applying, and perfecting make-up application – only to wipe it all off at the end of the night. She pokes fun at the ever-evolving beauty aesthetics, from dolphin face to the glazed donut look, joking that it’s just oily skin with good PR. And finally, she reaches the moment that makes every woman sigh with joy, taking it all off – or as she calls it, De-Glaze With Me – comparing make-up removal to the relief of removing a bra after a long day.
“It is crucial to recognise the importance of complete makeup removal as a fundamental aspect of skincare, especially for individuals with skin that is oily and prone to acne,” stated Ali Fakih, SVP Garnier USA. “Recognising that a single cleansing method doesn’t work for everyone, we’ve launched a subtly humorous campaign to highlight this issue. Our new Micellar Water with Salicylic Acid is specially designed to effectively remove makeup, excess oil, and purify the skin, all while remaining gentle enough for even sensitive, acne-prone skin. Because your skin is unique, not just a passing trend, it shouldn’t be treated like one.”
The full campaign will run across social media, featuring a line-up of beauty, gossip, and comedy influencers, including Benton McClintock, Chris Burns, Louis Levanti, Taryn Delanie Smith, and Arielle Lewis. The De-Glaze With Me comedy sketch is available on Garnier’s social channels.
