Weddings are hot right now, with a feast of reality shows like Say Yes to the Dress and Extreme Weddings and Married at First Sight making show the fervour doesn’t die down soon.
Never one to let a good opportunity to get in an act pass it by, KFC has launched a wedding service. You probably expected to see ??!! used to punctuate that. The strategy, creative and website come from Ogilvy Sydney. WPP AUNZ siblings, Geometry, Mediacom and opr joined in the fun.
Making the service known to Australia are cheeky KFC wedding print ads showing an elegant bride tucking into a bucket of the Colonel’s finest; ads that you wouldn’t expect to find in Vogue and Harper’s BAZAAR – but are.
KFC fans all over Australia can head to the KFC weddings website and lodge an application form explaining in 200 words or less why they want the ultimate KFC Wedding. The six winners will be judged on their originality, creative merit and independent expression shared in the entry. Any Australian ready to tie the knot is invited to apply – regardless of gender, sexual preference, religion or age… as long as they’re over 18.
A KFC wedding involes a lot of chicken (naturally), courtesy of the KFC Food Truck, plus a KFC themed celebrant to make it all official, a KFC photo booth to capture those happy memories, custom KFC buckets and musical entertainment to get the first dance kicked off in true style.
Gavin McLeod, executive creative director, Ogilvy Sydney, noted, “KFC Weddings is further proof of how much Australians love KFC. We noticed that people were already stopping in at KFC stores on their wedding day and saw the opportunity to launch a KFC Wedding service. Not every client would be brave enough to back something so unexpected, but KFC is not every client!”
Managing director at KFC Australia, Nikki Lawson, stated, “KFC is all about living your best life and we were flattered that so many of our fans are showing that Aussie larrikin spirit by asking us to be a part of their big day.
“Over the years we’ve seen some amazing Facebook comments and have heard of some incredible proposals from fans taking place in our restaurants in Australia and around the world. Seeing these we thought bucket, let’s create a KFC Wedding service! We think it’s important that this isn’t just a one-off affair and that as many of our fans have the chance to get a KFC Wedding – so we’re making this available for eight months as a genuine service for anyone living in Australia.”
