Here’s the story of the John Lewis Christmas ad, before JOE.ie weighed in:
This is what you’ve been waiting for – and judging by the press it has already received, what we’ve all been waiting for.
It’s a classic heartfelt Christmas story with a bit of adam&eve/DDB animal magic. It’s exactly what Christmas is about.

And the rumours began to fly:
According to the UK Telegraph, “the tell-tale clues that this could be linked to the John Lewis advert is the hashtag that appears at the end of the [first] video in a similar typeface to that used in the retailer’s previous Christmas adverts, as well as the swelling music and snowy scene.”
The tweets suggested that John Lewis Christmas 2016 ad would feature a soundtrack that’s Randy Crawford’s 1980 jazz hit, One Day I’ll Fly Away, by British electronic group, the Vaults. The ad’s hashtag will be #BounceBounce.
The release date was guessed to be Friday November 11, then 8am Thursday November 10 (London time).
Apparently that last rumour was correct. At 12.01 am on Thursday (London time), Campaign magazine posted the following story:
“John Lewis reveals 2016 Christmas ad
The hotly anticipated John Lewis Christmas ad is here and Buster the Boxer is the new star.”
Read all about the ad here. read all the way to the bottom to find the release date – 8am Thursday November 10. The Stable will upload it then.
The ad was directed by Dougal Wilson, who also directed John Lewis’ Man on the Moon (2015), Monty’s Christmas (2014) and The Long Wait (2011).
