Photoplay Photography has added to its pool of top tier talent. Photographer, Mia Mala McDonald, brings a vivid perspective of modern Australia to the roster. Senior producer, Amanda Moore, brings a deep first-hand understanding of the production process.
McDonald has a background in editorial and portraiture photography and is known for the renegade style and wit that enlivens her work. On set, she is known for her ability to put people at ease and handle the toughest subjects adeptly. She fuses candid intimacy with her own unique perspective to create work that draws attention. This skill has been sought after by clients as such as Chunky Move, RACV, Victoria Tourism, Melbourne University, Virgin Atlantic, Australian Olympic Committee, Ansell, and the ABC.
McDonald’s work has been published in The New York Times, The Monthly and Elle Magazine UK. Her celebrity portfolio includes greats such as Courtney Barnett, Bill Henson and Heston Blumenthal. In 2021, Mia Mala won the Martin Kantor Portrait Prize, and she has been a finalist in The National Photographic Portrait prize, Olive Cotton Award, the Moran Contemporary Photographic Prize. She is currently shortlisted in the Josephine Ulrick and Win Schubert Photography Award.

In November 2022 Mia Mala will publish her book, Once in a Lullaby: a portrait of Australia rainbow families through M.33 publishers and distributed internationally by Perimeter books. This project, shot from the perspective of a rainbow family member herself, offers a brave new vision of what family means in Australia today.

Amanda Moore’s remarkable understanding of production comes from her experience as a creative producer, stylist, and art director. With a career that spans 20 years with Union Management and before that 2C, Amanda has worked extensively across editorial and commercial photography, TVC, motion and social. She brings a strong visual gatekeeping skillset and production knowledge to Photoplay Photography’s capabilities. Moore has worked for a borad range of clients such as Tourism Australia, Qantas, Sony, Bonds, Oroton, Benetton, Nescafe, and TK Maxx. She enjoys collaborating with teams to deliver visual magic.
