In the flood of Christmas advertising this year, Prada’s has what it takes to stand out. Half of its stars are hand-drawn cartoon characters with a distinct Disney flair. The other half are actors of the moment, Sadie Sink, Maya Hawke, Chen Haoyu, Luther Ford, and Kelvin Harrison Jr. Prada creative directors, Miuccia Prada and Raf Simons, led a team that included photographer and director, Glen Luchford, animation director, John Pomeroy, with every frame drawn by hand (no CGI, no AI) and a touch of cheekiness that cuts through high fashion pretension.
The Disney feel? Pomeroy worked in two stints at Walt Disney Animation Studios, on films such as Winnie the Pooh and Tigger Too and The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh in the seventies, through to Fantasia 2000 and Atlantis: The Lost Empire in 2000 & 2001.
