As baseball season heats up in the US, Herb Light, is helping fans stay cool. The non-alcoholic super-low dose cannabis brew has made itself useful for fans by launching a coozie (insulated sleeve) that can keep two cans cold at once during baseball’s high-stakes playoff run.
The launch for the extra-tall Limited Edition Herb Light x Ozzie Guillen Double Play Coozie features former Chicago White Sox player and World Series-winning manager Ozzie Guillen, the elite defensive shortstop who made 1,223 double plays over the course of his career. The Ozzie Guillen from the year 1989. The campaign film on Herb Light’s Instagram features footage of a young Ozzie Guillen in the late eighties, on a field clad in a Herb Light jersey, talking about how when he goes to the cooler on a sunny day for a non-alcoholic beer, “I don’t like to get just one out, I like to get two outs.”
It’s all part of the 1980’s light beer brand world Herb Light and creative agency, Quality Meats, has created, from its nostalgic ‘80s packaging to its retro commercials and jingle to its Instagram wall featuring actual ‘80s photos with Herb Light present. To create the film, the brand used Ozzie’s real present-day voice and recreated his ‘80s likeness using AI.
The ’80s references have been built into the brand since launch.
“Light beers in the ‘80s were all about branded merch, catchy jingles and athlete endorsements. In other words, they were fun. Being the crushable light beer of non-alcoholic THC beverages, we’re following that playbook,” stated Herb Light co-founder, Brian Siedband. “Only our branded coozie holds two cans, and our athlete hasn’t technically played baseball in over two decades.”
“As a shortstop, I’m always trying to turn a double play, because two outs is better than one,” Ozzie Guillen added. “Now I can finally get that same feeling of getting two outs when I go to the cooler. It’s like I’ve been waiting 38 years for this Double Play Coozie to come out.”
Herb Light entered the marketplace earlier this summer, led by Quality Meats co-founders, Gordy Sang and Brian Siedband, along with business partner Jonathan Schiff, as an easy-to-drink, low-dose THC equivalent of a light beer. While recent activations include the Yacht Rock On a Yacht Party on Lake Michigan and a collab with Chicago’s Crust Fund Pizza, this is the brand’s first product activation and celebrity partnership.
