D&AD is an educational charity. It gives experienced creatives awards so that young creatives can do something productive with the stars in their eyes and sparks of brilliance in their heads.
From this year, The New Blood Awards are just like the professional awards except that the entrants are younger. Yellow, Black & White Pencils are given out, and it’s just as tough to get one.
The awards are:
New Blood In Book (formerly Best of Year)
A shortlist of the best work submitted for each brief.
New Blood Nomination
Work that rises above In Book standard and has the potential to win a New Blood Yellow Pencil.
New Blood Yellow Pencil
Work that is outstanding, rather than merely brilliant, wins a New Blood Yellow Pencil.
New Blood White Pencil (new this year)
Outstanding work in response to any of the briefs that uses the power of creativity to do good in the world.
New Blood Black Pencil (replacing Student of the Year)
The best of the best, the ultimate award for new creatives.
The Black Pencil is selected from the Yellow Pencil-winning entries, across all categories.
WPP has come in as a major partner this year and its contribution is explained here.
