The kikki.K Christmas ad’s voiceover opens in Swedish. Grabs your attention, doesn’t it?
SMART executive creative director, Ben Davis, commented, “Opening the commercial with a Swedish voiceover in the Australian market and recording a century-old Swedish Christmas carol for the vocal track is a big step and I’m proud of the guys for going there with us.
“The end result is something that we hope is true to the memory that Kristina has of Christmas time in her homeland. That was the brief and according to the client, we’ve delivered.”
The TVC is built around how kikki.K founder and creative director, Kristina Karlsson, remembers her childhood Christmases in Sweden…and what she does to keep those memories alive. Sending gifts and cards to distant friends and relatives is a big part of the Christmas tradition. It’s a profitable part for the Swedish stationery, gift and homewares retailer.
SMART managing director, Janelle Toomey, added, “Working with a global retailer, we felt strongly about the need to create a TVC that would demonstrate the birthplace of the brand and then translate easily into each of the current and emerging world markets for the brand. From the onset we knew that the only way to develop the commercial was in Swedish and then tailor for each market into the local language.”
Swedish White Christmas is the first TV campaign for kikki.K, which now has nearly 80 stores across Australia, New Zealand and Singapore, and an online store selling to customers in more than 70 countries.
Kristina Karlsson noted, “For me, a Swedish Christmas is all about the snow, the candlelight, the decorations, the food, family and friends and of course the beautiful memories all of these combine to create.
“I truly believe that we’ve managed to capture what beautiful Christmases were like for me growing up in Sweden – and I’m so excited to now be able to share this with our customers around the world – and to inspire them to reflect briefly on their own memories while considering kikki.K as a place where their beautiful Christmas begins.”
The 60 and 30 second television commercials were made with Window Productions.
