Brothers can be great for a brand’s business. And they don’t even have to be real…
…although Brad Pitt’s is. Virgin Mobile Australia demonstrated the power of bro in 2012. Brad Pitt’s (real life) brother, Doug, became a social media star and made Virgin Mobile Australia famous as the “fair go bro” mobile brand, when his down-to-earth life aired in a series of humorous commercials by EURO RSCG (Havas) Australia.
Four years later, when another Hollywood heartthrob, Ryan Reynolds, starred in Deadpool and became one of GQ’s Men of the Year, his “twin”, Gordon Reynolds displayed his disdain for his brother’s success in a GQ interview, that also went viral.
The bitter and twisted Gordon Reynolds has resurfaced following his brother’s starring role in Deadpool 2. And he has interviewed his twin again for Aviation Gin, after Ryan Reynolds bought a stake in the company this year.
When Ryan asked his brother why he hasn’t seen Deadpool 2, Gordon answered, “I was recently diagnosed with I don’t give a shit. And it’s terminal.” When asked to comment on the gin, however, (after drinking a full glass of it in one gulp), Gordon offered, “Tastes like a sunrise had sex with a feather duster.”
The interview, actually both interviews, are beautifully scripted with sharp repartee and wry humour. The new spot was co-written by Reynolds and Maximum Effort Productions partner, George Dewey. The content was produced by Evolution L.A.
