KFC does some really fun local work. Ogilvy Sydney’ Bucket heads, which invited Australians to join The HCG Buckethead Army – that is, wearing a KFC bucket on your head to show your support for cricket – was so quintessentially Australian and also tapped into Australia’s ratbag reputation and irreverent humour.
Now Sid Lee Paris and KFC are repaying hip-hop for thirty years of paying tribute to the fast food chain. If you’re a hip-hop fan, you’ll have witnessed this already. Touch the Sky by Kanye West, Ode to by the Beastie Boys and You Be Illin’ by RUN DMC all mention KFC in their lyrics. In fact, the chain has been referenced by countless artists, from Masta Ace, to Diplo, M.I.A. and Kendrick Lamar. Even its enigmatic founder, Colonel Sanders, was portrayed by the ‘90s French rap duet, X-Men.
So KFC has released a playlist of songs on Spotify that cite KFC. Bucket Bangers features US rap artists like Rick Ross, Ghostface Killah and Drake, French rappers like Maître Gims, Orelsan and Gringe, and even artists from Germany, Russia and Brazil.

The Bucket Bangers playlist will be promoted through Spotify banners and guerilla outdoor in the streets of Paris. The first campaign whose copywriters are some of the biggest rap names in history and a novel way to remind us that KFC is a unique brand… just like its fans. As the Beastie Boys would say: You know that tendency KFC baby.
