Canadian audio collective, SNDWRX, has dreamed up a fun way to waste a few hours. All you have to do is open the SNDWRX website. Then pretty much any computer key you touch will make a sound, so you can create your own tunes. It also works if you’re using a mouse.
If you’re not the only one watching the minutes tick by, you can even collaborate with friends, using two or more laptops or mobile devices, to play together.
And if silence is the golden rule in your workplace, you can play a sound-based trivia game on the site instead. Clues on a letter board prompt you to uncover 26 sound-related words, each one corresponding to a different letter of the alphabet. If you get the answer right, the site rewards you by unlocking cool Easter Egg animations. Uncover all 26 words and you can win some great SNDWRX gear, or (if you’re in Canada) a free music session in SNDWRX’s brand new studios.
You can also boast about your musical prowess and issue the challenge to your friends on Facebook and Twitter, with one click.
Since the site was launched last week, over 4200 people have “played”. Average time spent on the site is 5-7 minutes.
There have been 78 winners so far from all over the world with people in the US, Canada, Europe, Brazil and Australia winning the most prizes.
“Since we opened up shop, we’ve worked with many clients on creative projects, so we wanted our site to provide the right forum not only to show people how we work, but why we work the way we do,” Didier Tovel, creative director, SNDWRX, commented.
“We absolutely love to reinvent, to challenge and be challenged. Whether it’s for commercials, long format content or even video games, we want people to get a sense of who we are and what we stand for: creation.”
All of the sounds in the beat-making game were crafted in SNDWRX’s Toronto studios by its team of sound designers and composers over a 6-month period. They will be updated periodically in the coming months to keep things fresh. SNDWRX is also in the process of designing a mobile application that will, “take the website’s concepts to totally different level. All in all, the new SNDWRX website is pretty awesome, but don’t just take our word for it.”
