Paul Dunne interviews Ant Keogh. Keogh interviews Jonathan Kneebone. Kneebone interviews Tara Ford.
These are first three podcasts in The Creative Relay by music and sound design company, Smith & Western.
It works like this: In each podcast, one brilliant creative interviews another brilliant creative who inspires him or her. The baton is then passed to the interviewee creative, who becomes the interviewer in the next podcast – and so on. The podcasts form a series in which Australia’s most inspiring creative minds talk to the creatives who most inspire them.
Permanent host, writer and creative director, Paul Dunne, kicks off The Creative Relay.
Paul Dunne
In Podcast 1, he interviews the convention-defying Ant Keogh (Meet Graham, Snickers Hungerithm, Carlton Draught Made From Beer – Big Ad, Flashbeer, SloMo & Beer-Chase, NAB BreakUp…), recently appointed chief creative officer of The Monkeys Melbourne.
Ant Keogh
“We had to start somewhere – and what better place than inside the head of Ant Keogh. He’s an awe-inspiring creative powerhouse, and we were elated when he agreed to be our inaugural guest,” says Dunne.
In podcast 2, Keogh interviews his mist inspiring creative, Jonathan Kneebone, writer, director and co-founder of The Glue Society, which has won a Titanium Award, four Grands Prix and 16 Gold Lions at Cannes plus a showcase full of other awards. Kneebone is one of the Gunn Report’s most awarded directors.
Jonathan Kneebone
“I think The Creative Relay podcast is a great idea. I mean how often do you get the chance to catch up and have a proper conversation with people in the industry when you’re not completely pissed?” Kneebone commented.
In podcast 3, Kneebone delves deep into the mind of DDB Sydney executive creative director, Tara Ford. Like Kneebone, Ford is a multi-award winner and a very active mentor to the next generation – Kneebone via The Glue Society’s Fellowship Program and D&AD’s Rare and Brief to Broadcast events; Ford through Cannes See It Be It and Young Lions Programs, RMIT student program, Miami Ad School and AWARD School.
Tara Ford
“It’s easy to spend so much time head down working. So, it was wonderful to take some time to reflect and project on our industry, careers and creativity with some amazing people,” Ford comented.
More will be released in the next few weeks.
“I’m loving being in the room, with this revolving door of creatives. Their individual differences are just as interesting as the common themes that are emerging,” Dunne added.
The Creative Relay series is the brainchild of Smith & Western executive producer, Dan Higson, and Smith & Western, creative director, Nick West.
“We were driven to create The Creative Relay because we wanted to do something that hadn’t been done before. There are loads of podcasts out there – but there aren’t a lot of creative leaders of the calibre we have pulled together. We think there is a keen interest in the industry to get inside the minds of creative leaders and discover what makes them tick and this series and its relay concept delivers that with a double dose of each,” Higson explained.
Western noted, “The podcasts are very chilled, relaxed and conversational and cover the personal stories that go beyond the usual industry-focused discussion. That’s key to The Creative Relay because we’ve found it is often the stories-behind-the-story that uncover the greatest gems of insight, intrigue and inspiration.”
Dunne added, “We want the podcasts to be enlightening, but also a bit of a laugh. Fortunately, ad creatives tend to be a pretty funny bunch – and so far, everyone’s been great company.”
You can listen to all the podcasts on the Creative Relay website or iTunes.
