Don’t let the Mandarin dialogue fool you. The latest Snickers, You’re Not You When You’re Hungry ad went to air in the UK. It’s a spoof of martial arts movies in general, and Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, in particular, whose rooftop scene opening it mimics.
Rowan Atkinson plays Mr Bean as a martial arts master, of sorts. It’s the first time he has agreed to do an ad in 18 years.
The 60 second ad aired for the first time on ITV during X Factor on October 4, after the brand sent out a Twitter teaser.
The campaign includes four Mr Bean Kung Fu training sketches on Snickers’ social channels and a Snickers takeover of The X Factor app. The ad is also being shown in cinemas across the UK.
Michael Magee, the vice-president of marketing at Mars Chocolate UK, commented, “Mr Bean is such an iconic and internationally recognisable character, who fits so well with the Snickers brand, giving this ad great global potential.”
