Answering calls from unknown numbers? That’s a thing of the past. Especially in Thailand following a call-centre epidemic. But the “if you don’t recognise the number, don’t answer” message has caused a problem. After years of reinforcing the message, watch out for scam calls, caller ID app, Whoscall, is highlighting a new problem – missing the good calls – hospitals calling patients, insurers following up on claims, financial institutions calling about loan approvals…

For the first time, Whoscall has flipped the familiar anti-scam narrative in its campaign by Sour Bangkok. Instead of dramatising another scammer trying to get through, We’re begging you, dramatises (with wonderful hyperbole) “good-call victims” – people and organisations whose legitimate calls are routinely mistaken for scams. This time, they’re the ones begging people to download Whoscall – so they can pick up the right calls.

The satirical comedy turns a painfully real problem into something people can laugh at – showing “good-call victims” suffering the absurd consequences of being hung up on again and again.

And while the comedy is exaggerated, the stories are not. They came directly from interviews with people and organisations facing the problem first-hand. Sour Bangkok and Whoscall then brought together partners across industries facing the same problem and turned them into part of the campaign.

The full campaign includes OOH, partner communications and on-ground activations.
