At this year’s Super Bowl, Budweiser is celebrating its 150th anniversary (and its 48th national appearance at the Game). Its 60-second commercial by BBDO NY and Draftline, the in-house agency for Anheuser-Busch, is called American Icons. It honours “the deep-rooted American heritage,” the brand says in its campaign blog and fits into Budweiser’s Made of America platform. It’s the story of as Clydesdale foal that befriends a baby Bald Eagle, looking after the bird that is struggling in the rain.
The story of the two animals growing up together and learning from each other is underscored by the song, Free Bird, by Lynyrd Skynyrd.
The commercial was directed by Academy Award-nominated filmmaker and Emmy Award-winning commercial director, Henry-Alex Rubin, for the third year in a row and will air nationally during Super Bowl LX and on Budweiser’s YouTube and social channels.

The full campaign includes 150th anniversary heritage packaging – collectible, limited-edition Budweiser cans that pay homage to the brand’s storied past, with four designs that represent notable eras of the brand’s history and mark the start of an exciting year of celebration.
