Daniel made his debut in a 30 second video, posted on February 15 by his friend, Josh. Daniel is caught walking around looking cool in a pair of ultra-bright white Vans. Josh comments, “Damn, Daniel,” – enough times to make his mockery apparent. The video, Damn, Daniel, was retweeted more than 180 thousand times, gave birth to a collection of memes and a rap song, and “Damn, Daniel,” became the not new catchphrase.
Superheroes New York has remastered the video that was shot with vertical video, crackling audio, and shaky camera work.
Why?
Because the native ad agency whose mission is to save the world from boring advertising, wants to show off the capabilities of the new LG V20 phone by improving what’s already awesome.
Damn Daniel Remastered is the first viral to get its LG makeover. The film features the original creators plus an over-the-top 90s R&B group, who lovingly serenade the pair as they reenact the viral – this time smoothly.
To really prove the audio and video recording capabilities of the LG V20, the films and vocals were recorded with the phone. It was used to record a series of short tutorial videos with the R&B group highlighting the V20’s key features, like wide angle, steady recording and hi-fi audio.
After Damn Daniel Remastered, the campaign will continue its remastering feats in upcoming weeks with two other big viral hits. All the films are directed by Richard Farmer, with music production by Squeak E. Clean. The LG V20 hits US stores on October 10.
This is the first campaign by SuperHeroes New York for LG USA. Previously the agency worked successfully for the LG global headquarters with its So Real It’s Scary series.
