A dancing Daniel Craig. Now that is a surprise, but surprise is nothing less than you’d expect from Taika Waititi. Waititi has directed the new commercial for LVMH’s Belvedere Vodka and has coaxed Craig into dancing.

The spot begins with all the Bond suave and stylish notes you’d expect to surround the actor – the Pont Neuf in Paris, Craig in a white suit – but the two-minute film never intended to continue to build Craig’s martini-personality. The actor quickly morphs into a dancer dressed in black leather jacket, black skin-tight vest and silver neck chain by stylist, Christine Centenera, with Rita Ora and UK rapper, Giggs, providing the soundtrack to his choreography by JaQuel Knight

The film’s message is revealed at the end when Waititi is heard to say “cut” before appearing himself, telling Craig, “Just go again. Be yourself.”

So it’s a very unexpected ad with a much-used 2022 theme. That’s a shame. But the commercial is gorgeous. And that probably overrides everything for the millions of viewers it is likely to get. Belvedere may well be well on its way to being the chic drink to drink this Christmas.
