Three different brands – one hero. Heathrow Airport, Harrods and Switzerland’s largest supermarket chain, Migros, have all featured teddy bears in their Chrsitmas ads.
It’s always fun to compare and contrast. So here goes:
Harrods was first to present a teddy Christmas. It was also the first major retailer to launch its advertising campaign. Harrods teased A Very British Bear Tale on November 1 and released it on November 2.
In the story, animated by creative studio, Mainframe, Hugh the teddy bear who is too snuggly to freeze, has to save Harrods after a cheeky elf casts the department store under a “wintry spell”.
The teddy climbs through the store to the roof, where he holds up a sign appealing to Santa Claus to help. Rudolph spots the sign and comes to the rescue with Santa, and Hugh is rewarded by becoming crowned Prince Hugh, The Brave and Kind.
Stunning production values give a simple children’s story universal appeal.
It’s not difficult to sell the world’s most famous department store at Christmas, but an airport reminds everyone of one of Christmas’ not so joyful elements.
London’s Heathrow Airport has released its first-ever Christmas commercial, Coming Home for Christmas anyway, part of its 70th anniversary celebrations.
The 70-second heartstring tugger took off on Facebook, collecting than 3 million views in its first few days and a flood of coverage in media throughout the world.
The spot was created by Havas London and directed by Dom&Nic, who filmed it over three days at Heathrow while it was fully operational. It was produced by Outsider Productions and animated by The Mill.
Music is by Curved Arrow, using the Chas & Dave song, I’m Going Back, as the film’s soundtrack.
Migros’ teddy is rather more down-at-heel than his Christmas ad siblings. The old toy is abandoned in a corner by his little girl owner while she unwraps a robotic dog with flashing lights under the Christmas tree. He feels very rejected when her delight shows. He leaves the house and takes to the streets, where he shivers in the snow and thinks. That results in something wonderful
The campaign was created by Wirz Werbung in Zurich, to send a message about donating to help the needy in Switzerland.
