Gustav Dejert began his career as an animator at a motion graphics studio in Stockholm doing title sequences, music videos and commercials. Illustration was a “second job”. “When the client wanted illustrations, I did them and after a couple of years I moved over to illustration. So it was not my decision, it just happened,” Gustav admits. His illustration has made his name throughout the world. His use of colours is eye-catching – exuberant in number, vibrant in intensity and soft in tone.
He tells engaging stories – no words needed.
He has a flair for both detailing and humour that draws people in.

And look what he can do for a branding and packaging brief.
Gustav created the illustrations for Daylesford and Hepburn Mineral Springs Company’s new flavoured sparkling mineral water labels, for Melbourne design, web development & branding agency, Swear Words.

Gustav’s work consists of animation, illustration, app design, ebooks, commercial work, editorial and books. He has a particular fondness for vintage children’s books. “They make me happy,” he says.
He joined The Illustration Room more than a year ago, and his Australian work already includes Daylesford and Hepburn Mineral Springs Company,
Wrigleys Eclipse, Good Weekend, City of Sydney, Tiger Airways, and Hardie Grant Sydney Tourist Map Cover.
Gustav lives just outside Stockholm, Sweden, with his young family. His studio is in his basement. He graduated from Forsbergs School of Design in 1997.
