Brisbane’s Calile Hotel has teamed up with Australian-born Los Angeles director, Scottie Cameron, to produce a short film that plays on the traditional challenge faced by resort hotels with popular poolside destinations, where guests vie for highly coveted sun loungers.
In its 90-second whimsical romance, Poolside Attraction, the lounger has fallen in love with the guest. (And who wouldn’t?) The humorous film is, of course, an opportunity to feature the hotel’s appeal. It also shows off the vibrant visual style for which Cameron has become known and is apparent in his work for leading fashion, hospitality and tech brands. His films for Jacquemus and Speedo (Going Full Speedo) are the director, writer and photographer’s most recent, however, he has also worked on global campaigns for Apple, New Balance, Vogue, Bulgari, Nike, Levi’s and Vans.
Cameron’s work often calls on older filmmaking techniques to enable the story to be the hero. “I am drawn to older films and older style of making films where it was all a bit slowed down. No gimbals or drones, or crazy use of VFX… I don’t like to let a certain technique or camera move overpower what the story is trying to tell. All the camera things should fall away, so you do not really even notice them.” He is also known for blurring the lines between reality and fantasy to intrigue and hold an audience.

“The inspiration mostly came from the hotel itself, and what makes The Calile, The Calile,” Cameron added.
Cameron’s previous short films include Welcome To Prom, Backyard Legends for New Balance and a series of vignettes for Vogue Magazine titled Everything Else Changes. Another short film, El Portafolio, is an original screenplay written and directed by Cameron which has also been shown at festivals worldwide.
He was also recently selected for the Tribeca Film Festival, where his film, Officer Stanley, has received positive reviews. It was also featured at the Palm Springs Short Film Festival and is expected to present a work at a major festival on Australian shores in the year ahead.
Poolside Attraction alsoreflects The Calile’s ongoing commitment to the arts, collaboration and storytelling and is the latest in the brand’s series of creative partnerships undertaken by The Calile in recent years, that promote local and global artists and creators.
